Why McAlester

That’s a great question with even greater answers! We believe McAlester offers the best of smalltown living with a fun touch of urban flair. Our charming downtown boasts coffee shops, wineries, eateries, breweries and shopping with both hometown and global vibes.

On many weekends you’ll find live music, festivals and gatherings where we literally close down the streets and dance and eat our hearts out! Do antiques and collectables make your heart beat faster? Then head on over to North Main in our Old Towne shopping area for a fun afternoon discovering vintage finds. On busier 69 highway you’ll find a variety of chain retail and restaurant sites, and from there you are just a hop, skip and jump south to the Choctaw Casino and McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, or east to our little sister city Krebs. And speaking of Krebs, no visit to our area would be complete without Italian dining at Roseanna’s or Pete’s Place, sampling some Choc Beer or Prairie Ale brewed right here at home, and a quick pop into tiny, authentic Lovera’s grocery, home of the internationally award winning Caciocavera cheese.

You know what they say in real estate, LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION is everything, and McAlester boasts one of the most ideal placements in the state! Highways 69 and 270 literally run right through our town, and with the tips of Tulsa, Oklahoma City, Dallas and Fort Smith just a couple of hours or less away, you can be anywhere you need to be quickly and efficiently! Lake Eufaula is 30 minutes to the north, gorgeous Robber’s Cave State Park is 40 minutes to the east, and an hour to the southeast will find you at the entrance to the beautiful Ouachita Mountains and Talimena Drive. With so much to see and do both at home, and just a short drive away, McAlester is the perfect location to stop and stay awhile!
